Things to do
Nature and birdwatching
Here at Abbots Reading Farm, we have a fantastic viewing platform that is situauted in an elevated position behind the farm. From there you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Rusland Valley and across to the Coniston hills. There is also access to our newly installed bird hide overlooking our wildlife pond and surrounding area. Frequent visitors include curlews, lapwings, kingfishers, herons, reed buntings, red kites, sky larks, meadow pippets, owls, otters, red and roe deer and many more. We are fortunate to be close to Roudsea Woods and Hay Bridge Nature Reserves.
Cycling/mountain biking
We are only six miles away from Grizedale Forest which offers excellent facilities for all cyclists, from beginners trails to the more challenging, famous ‘North Face’.
John Sutcliffe provides guided cycle tours and bicycle hire. He's located in Lowick near to Abbots Reading Farm. See the website for more details http://www.cyclinginthelakedistrict.co.uk
Walking
We are an ideal base for walkers. Our surrounding countryside offers breathtaking scenery. There are walks to suit all levels.
